THE HPV vaccination rate for young girls across north east Essex is the best in the country, latest figures from the Department of Health have revealed.
Between April 2011 and April 2012, the immunisation team at community healthcare provider, Anglian Community Enterprise, has given 95.3 per cent of all three doses of the vaccine, which helps reduce the incidence of cervical cancer.
The programme provides three doses of vaccine to girls before they reach an age when the risk of HPV infection increases.
It is offered routinely to girls aged 12 to 13. The HPV vaccine gives 70 per cent protection against two strains of HPV that cause cervical cancer in women.
