THE latest production from the district’s well-loved drama group will have a magical spell when it rolls out this weekend.

Following on from the success of ‘Columbo’ in April, Maldon Drama Group are again treading the boards, this time with a production of Terry Pratchett’s Wyrd Sisters, which will be running this weekend run from Thursday through to Saturday at the town hall in Maldon.

Adapted by Stephen Briggs and directed by Helen Rasmussen, whose last two productions gained a total of nine North Essex Theatre Guild nominations in 2016, Wyrd Sisters is part of the much loved Discworld series.

In the kingdom of Lancre, Verence, the king, has been murdered and the evil duke and duchess have seized power.

However, they may have underestimated the powers of the local witches, the Wyrd Sisters, Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat.

Beneath the magical veil, the production is a story of the power of words. Whether it be the strolling playwrights of Lancre or modern day media moguls Terry Pratchett, it shows how words can change history and make the guilty innocent again.

The Maldon Drama Group was originally founded in 1952 as The All Saints Drama Guild, where they presented their productions at the Parish Hall on High Street, before moving to Church Hall on London Road for many years afterwards.

In 2002, on the guild’s 50th anniversary, they decided the time had come to update the group to reflect on progressive change from a predominantly church organisation to a more broadly based community group, so the guild was re-named The Maldon Drama Group.

At the end of the following year, they moved from the Church Hall to their present home at the Town Hall.

The production starts at 7.45pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Doors open 7pm, tickets cost £10 for balcony and £9 for stalls.
