THE Sladbury’s Lane Protest Group and the Holland Residents’ Association (supported by a coalition of opposition of four other parties) have been campaigning against plans to build a new housing estate (700-plus new houses) in east Clacton, between Burrs Road and Sladbury’s Lane.

We would like to thank all Holland residents for their huge response and overwhelming support in completing the survey contained in the Holland Residents Association spring newsletter.

Our door-to-door petition has been enthusiastically welcomed and is growing hourly. It’s a marvellous example of people power informing our elected councillors that they ignore the voice of the people at their peril.

“Say No to a 700-plus housing estate, proposed to be built on farmland adjacent to Sladbury’s Lane”.

This fantastic response shows that there is virtually no support for this development, which forms part of the larger plan being suggested for St Johns Road, of 4,100 new houses.

The people who live in Holland-on-Sea, east Clacton and Bockings Elm know that these development plans are deeply flawed and need scrapping. We think it’s complete nonsense to invite 10,000 to 12,000 people to move here, adding to our massive problems with unemployment, limited resources, and the many reasons mentioned in the Gazette on a weekly basis. How can we all be so wrong?
