COLCHESTER United have been linked with signing Frank Nouble on a permanent basis following his release by Plymouth Argyle.

The experienced forward, who has been on loan at the U's since February 1, is one of ten out-of-contract players at the League One club who have been told that they are free to find other clubs.

Nouble is now a free agent and is now looking for a club to play his football, next season.

The 29-year-old played his part in helping Colchester remain a League Two club, in the current campaign after re-signing for them on loan.

He has made 20 appearances for them in the league - all starts - scoring three times.

Nouble started Colchester's final game of the season at Tranmere Rovers last weekend, which finished in a 0-0 draw.

Writing on social media afterwards, he said: 'Turbulent year to say the least but bloody loved it same time. Good team performance away to end the season'

Nouble was one of four first-team players who were due to be out of contract to leave Colchester last August, with chairman and owner Robbie Cowling having to make tough decisions due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He joined Plymouth soon after but struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in Ryan Lowe's line-up, making 12 league starts and 12 substitute appearances in the league for the Pilgrims, this season.

Nouble had scored five goals and contributed six assists in his 38 appearances for Colchester, last season.

In total, he had made 92 league and cup appearances for the U's, scoring 14 times, after joining them from League Two rivals Newport County in July, 2018, prior to leaving last summer.
