COLCHESTER United’s playing staff will report to the club’s Florence Park training ground today and tomorrow for meetings, with the future of a number of their first-team squad uncertain.

More than a dozen players in the U’s first-team squad are set to see their current contracts expire this summer, although it is believed that the club does have an option to extend some of those deals.

Skipper Harry Pell, Callum Harriott, Tom Lapslie and Dean Gerken are among those whose existing deals are set to end, this summer.

Ryan Clampin, Jevani Brown, Courtney Senior, Michael Folivi, Ben Stevenson and Tom Eastman are others whose current terms are set to run out, in the coming weeks.

Colchester also need to make a decision on their permanent boss who will be.

Hayden Mullins has done an impressive job as their interim head coach since taking over at the end of March, leading them to League Two safety.

He has been assisted by first-team advisor Paul Tisdale, with both said to be in the running for the role on a permanent basis for next season.

Mullins said: “We’re in Monday and Tuesday.

“We have loads of meetings and we’ll see the lads before they go.

“There are some bits and pieces we need to tie up before we can officially say ‘OK we can relax, everyone take a breather’.

“This week, there will be a few bits that we tie up and then I’ll have a break like everyone else – I need it!

“I’ll have a holiday and a break which will be really good, just to sit back and reflect really.”

Meanwhile, Tisdale asked Colchester’s players to ‘savour the moment’ following their 0-0 draw at Tranmere Rovers, on the final day of the season.

Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

There are likely to be plenty of changes to the U’s squad this summer, with players coming and going from the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester stand-in captain Tommy Smith said: “Tis sat us down and said just take ten seconds to reflect.

"He said 'you’ll never be with this exact same group of players ever again and there will be changes'.

“He said to have a look around us, savour the moment and make sure you keep in touch with who you want to keep in touch with.

“There’s players that might kick on to a higher level, there’s players who might leave us for other reasons.

"But that camaraderie that we’ve built over the last few weeks to get us out of the mess has been brilliant.”
