FC CLACTON boss Steve Pitt is backing new signing Liam Whittaker to forge an exciting partnership with Ray Turner.

The Suffolk under-18 player joined on loan from AFC Sudbury just before Christmas.

Although he has signed on a dual registration basis, it seems highly unlikely he will be recalled by the Ryman League outfit.

And Sudbury’s loss could be Clacton’s gain, with the talented teenager set to make his debut in tonight’s rearranged Ridgeons League premier division match at Brantham Athletic (kick-off 7.45pm).

Pitt told the Gazette: “I’ve been trying to sign him for the last three months but each time I’ve made an approach it’s been blocked.

“Liam’s a young man still learning his trade.

“He’s young and raw but when we came up against him in pre-season he caused us a lot of problems.

“He’s got a real presence.

“He’s powerful, deceptively strong and has all the pre-requisites I’m looking for.

“And I’m confident he could work well in tandem with Ray Turner.

“I’ve been looking for a player who could be a foil for him and hopefully Liam fits the bill.”

Whittaker started his senior career with Cornard United but has found his opportunities limited at Sudbury.

Pitt has also completed the signing of central midfielder Gavin Frost, from Woodbridge.

The 32-year-old will act as cover for Martin Calver, who is currently unavailable.
