CLACTON Ladies rugby team are getting ready for their first home game at Clacton Rugby Club.

The team take on Haverhill Ladies on Sunday at Clacton Rugby Club in Valley Road, after going from strength to strength.

Clacton Ladies had their first-ever training session last May and head coach, Pete Doolin, was only expecting a few ladies to turn up.

It was a pleasant surprise when 18 ladies arrived nervously for their first session, the majority of whom had never played rugby before.

The ladies grew in confidence and trained over the summer learning the game and improving their fitness.

Clacton Ladies team had their first outing as a team supporting Harwich Owls last September, at an Inner Warrior Tournament.

All of the ladies had a run out supporting Harwich Owls and they grew in confidence.

A full Clacton Ladies team returned to Harwich a few weeks later, for their first full game.

The Ladies team had their first proper match against Haverhill Ladies last November, away at Haverhill.

Although they did not win, it was a fantastic opening performance and Lily Ellis scored the first try in Clacton Ladies' historic first game.

They are now looking forward to their first home game this weekend and all spectators are welcome.

Clacton Ladies train every Thursday evening from 7.15pm, and currently have 26 registered ladies, with ages ranging from 17 to 47.

Anyone interested is welcome to come and join them.
