SEVENTEEN schools in the Southend borough competed in the SPSSA year 5/6 girls football tournament held at the Len Forge Centre.
There was some fantastic football being played and the morning competition saw the schools battle it out to secure a place in the ‘super eights’.
In the final, Fairways and Chalkwell battled it out for gold.
After a 10-minute game it was a 0-0 draw.
A further 10 minutes saw another 0-0 draw, which then lead to a ‘golden goal’ which was scored by Fairways.
West Leigh finished third after beating Prince Avenue 2-0.
Fairways and Chalkwell will now both compete in the Essex School Games later this month.
