TWO Holland Shore Boxing Club members won National Amateur Boxing Championship Eastern Counties titles at Dagenham.

First up, showing impressive form, was young Blake Housman, who was up against Norwich City's competent Tyler Downs.

Downs, who had won a close points decision when the two met last season, worked hard in a very lively first round but was showing signs of distress in the second as the heavy-handed Housman began closing the distance and connecting with heavy head shots to win a comfortable second round.

Again, in the third, the Norwich City boy tried keeping the rugged Housman at bay, using good foot movement, but he was forced to take a standing eight count after being caught with a heavy three-punch combination.

With Housman in aggressive mood and his strength slowing the Norwich City boxer down, another left and right-hand combination forced Downs to take a second standing eight count.

Housman therefore won a convincing points decision.

Also competing and winning a second Eastern Counties title for Holland Shore was the experienced Arnie Dawson.

The impressive Dawson also reversed a close points decision loss when up against Sudbury's Kie Bryon.

Competing in his first three by three-minute round contest, Dawson's fitness and condition made the difference as the rugged Bryon walked forward from the first bell, trying to bully the Holland Shore boxer.

However, he was met with heavy combinations from the classy Dawson, who stood his ground and hit back to share a gruelling first round.

Again in the second round, Bryon walked forward but was met with hurtful combinations as Dawson's class was beginning to show.

Bryon was now beginning to look tired, with Dawson keeping his workrate high to win the second round.

In the third round, Dawson was again connecting with sharp combinations as he kept his workrate high, with the Sudbury lad looking drained, to win a convincing points victory.

Both boys move on to the next round next week and are joined by clubmate Trez Thomas, who received a walkover.
