CLACTON duo Pat Wernham and Anne Nelson were victorious in the Tendring Hundred League pairs final, winning by two shots against Dovercourt's Christine Griggs and Val Green.

Also competing in the finals were team-of-four Val Dimond, Ann Devenish, Julie Jolly and Gill Chinery.

However, they lost by four shots against a team from Happy Valley.

Clacton's ladies held their annual gala, with June Lineham, Lyla Horley and Shirley Harvey, from Holland-on-Sea Bowling Club, winning first prize.

The runners-up were Rita Sharpe, Janet Shearman and Heather Williams, from Thorrington Bowls Club.

The gala was sponsored by ladies' match secretary Sharyn Brennan.
