CLAIRE Vaughan became Frinton Golf Club's ladies' champion for 2019 after winning the Fiona Edmond Trophy.

It was a 36-hole strokeplay competition off scratch and her score was 170.

Angela Low was second, on countback, with 196, just ahead of Jemma Jackson. The trophy was originally presented to the club by Marny MacDonald, Ms Edmond’s mother.

The ladies also won their bronze match at home to The Warren, prevailing 3½ to 1½.

The Friday monthly stableford, open to all Havers Course members, had a good turnout with a field of 50 players.

Nick Brown won with a respectable 43 points.

John Snedden was in second with 39 points and third place went to Alan Morrison, with 38.

Sarah Taylor had the best ladies’ score.

Twenty ladies competed in a stableford on their day.

Karen Wright won with 36 points.

Louise Wood came second, with 34, and Jane Quick was third, with 33.

The ladies' Harris Bowl team had a draw against Epping.

The match was played in good spirits and both sides thoroughly enjoyed the day.

The junior President's Cup was held at the end of May.

Seven young men competed, with Jonathan Carter winning with an amazing 46 points.

Alex Hazell was in second place, with 42 points.

The play was of such a high standard that almost all the participants had their handicaps reduced.
