CLACTON Golf Club's ladies played their first County Bronze match of the season, at home to Chelmsford Golf Club.

The team lost 3½-1½ but it was a closely-fought contest, with three matches ending on the 18th and one on the 17th.

Also played on Tuesday was the first round of the Lady Captain’s Knockout competition.

Twelve ladies won their matches and will go through to the second round.

In high winds, the junior team played their first Youth Shield match of the season against a strong Colchester team and pulled off a very impressive 5-0 win.

The victorious team comprised Wilf Elliott, Jake Wells, Harvey Bell and Jay Foley.

The rest of the juniors played a stableford competition, in strong blustery winds.

It was won by James Wright, with 29 points.

Henry Goodwin came second, with 27, and Maxwell Robertson third, with 21.

The Captains Putter was played on Sunday.

This is a stableford competition for men.

Thirty-nine pairs entered the event and the winning pair were N Spencer and K Sorrell, on 39 points.

K Hill and D Puril were second, on countback, with 37 points, followed by R Cory and M Cockburn, also on 37.
