CLACTON Golf Club's juniors played a winter stableford.

In first place, with 39 points, was Harvey Bell.

Milo Locke took second spot, with 37.

Sam Bruce edged out Wilf Elliott on countback for third place, with both players returning 36 points.

Elsewhere, Clacton's ladies played a singles stableford and Sue Gurry won with 26 points.

In second place was Cheryl Stepton, with 25.

Three ladies had 24 points and, on countback, Lin Euston High was third, followed by Fiona Cope and Terry Whiting.

Next week the ladies will play in a Mini Matchplay competition off full handicap.

Clacton's seniors played their winter Texas Scramble.

In first place with a nett 61 were the team of Graham Atkinson, John Stuck and Ray Humphreys.

In second, also with 61, were the trio of Perry Richards, John Kemp and Eric Farrant.

Third place went to the team of Laurie Farrugia, Doug Nicholls and Joe Middleton, with 62.

Pictured handing over a cheque for £1,800 is Alan Corbyn, of the Pheasant Pluckers, to Caroline Bates, from CoHoC (Colchester Cancer Centre).

Alan has been captain of the long-established golf society for the last year.

Throughout their playing season, they have raised this amount via weekly contributions and raffles.

Next year’s captain will be Norman Borstel, who will be raising funds for his nominated charity.
