Sol Campbell's managerial career started against Colchester United.

COLCHESTER United boss John McGreal is ready to pit his wits against Sol Campbell for the second time in little more than two months tomorrow.

And the U’s head coach says his Macclesfield Town counterpart has caught the bug for the job, as the former England defender continues to take his first steps in league management.

Campbell’s first game in charge of the Silkmen came last December, when Colchester ran out 1-0 winners at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Since then, he has led Macclesfield to within a point of safety in League Two and boss McGreal is sure Campbell is enjoying life in the hot seat.

McGreal said: “Sol has got them going at the minute.

“When he first took over at the beginning of December, I think we were his first league game.

“We played well in the first half but it was a tight affair in the second half.

“They’ve clawed those points quite quickly and they’ll be looking to get themselves out of it.

“We have to continue to let ourselves continue with the good work that we’ve done all season and that means away from home as well, where I think we’ve been decent.

“They’re a competitive group, as you have to be in this league.

“Sol has certainly got that with his team and starting out as a young manager as well, I’m sure he’s loving it.

“It’s a bug – it does get to you and I’m sure he’s enjoying it, the wins more than the defeats because I think that comes with the territory.

“They’re looking for wins and so are we.

“Sol now knows his team and he knows what he’s got and what he’s got to try and do.

“We know what we have to try and do as well.

“We go into games trying to win them and I’m sure Sol is the same.

“We’ll have to be right on it, because they’ve been performing at a good level.”

Frank Nouble is set to lead the line again for Colchester tomorrow and boss McGreal is pleased with his striker's form.

The former West Ham youngster has scored two goals in as many games and McGreal said: “Frank’s led the line well, of late.

“Different personnel have moved around within the team."
