Brightlingsea Regent's upturn in Bostik League premier division form continued as Aaron Condon's double strike at AFC Hornchurch made sure it would be plenty of Christmas cheer at the Taydal Stadium this year.

Regent are heading into the close of 2018 in impressive style and their 2-1 victory at the Urchins meant they head into their final game of the calendar year - at home against Bishop's Stortford next Saturday - having won four of their five games so far in December.

Condon opened the scoring against Hornchurch with a 55th minute strike and although Alex Bentley pulled the hosts level nine minutes later, Condon was on target again in the 71st minute with what proved to be the winner.

The win continued a good run for Brightlingsea and meant they headed into Christmas sat 17th in the premier division table and now six points clear of the drop zone.

It was a quiet day for the Gazette's local Bostik League sides and even if Regent weren't the only north Essex team to be in action, it was a result that may well have been a clear favourite to take the performance of the week award.

As it was, they claimed it handsomely.
