HOLLAND FC manager Rob Batten felt his side were architects of their own downfall after seeing a 2-0 lead go up in smoke during Saturday's Thurlow Nunn League contest at Burnham Ramblers.

The Eastcliff side powered into a clear lead in the division one south contest but eventually slid to a 3-2 defeat.

Steve Downes and Jack Fuller scored the Holland goals.

Burnham pulled one back before the break and then turned the match on its head with two more goals in the second half.

"How good we were against Halstead Town (winning 4-0 in the League Cup last Tuesday) was matched by how bad we were against Burnham," said Batten, who had travelled with a depleted side to Leslie Field.

"Mistakes cost us dearly and we must be better away from home.

"We will keep trying to be so.”

Holland, who are fifth in the table, have a home date with Hackney Wick on Saturday and then make the short trip to Little Oakley next Tuesday.

The latter is a rearranged First Division Knockout Cup tie.
