BRIGHTLINGSEA Regent manager Tom Rothery wants his players to strive for consistency as they refocus on Bostik League points, after the excitement of Saturday's FA Cup date with Torquay United.

The R's suffered a 3-0 defeat in the third qualifying round tie but now switch their attention back to two important premier division contests, at Whitehawk on Saturday and Enfield Town next Tuesday.

“Hopefully we can use the excitement from the weekend and move forward," said Rothery.

“The cup run was great but I haven’t been happy with the way we’ve started our league campaign.

“Now we need to build on this, get some momentum off the back of it and move up the table.

“I feel some of the players need to do more, if I’m being brutally honest.

“We need more consistency because we’re too up and down at the moment.

“Take the two games before Torquay, for example.

"We were excellent at Folkestone (won 3-2) but then poor on the Tuesday night, against Potters Bar (lost 1-0).

“A lot of that comes down to work-rate and things do have to change.

“(Assistant boss) Pip (Boyland) and myself will sit down and look at the squad, to see where we need to improve."

Rothery felt his side could have done more after going down 2-0 down in Saturday's cup tie against the Gulls, which drew a crowd of 470 to the Taydal Stadium.

“We changed our shape to try and get back in the game," he said.

“I just wanted us to have a go.

"At 2-0, even 1-0, we’re out of the FA Cup.

“I’ll always be positive and try and get back in the game.

“But when their second goal went in, a few heads went down and we lost a bit of discipline."
