BRIGHTLINGSEA REGENT’S FA Cup adventure came to an end this afternoon after they were beaten 3-0 by former Football League side Torquay United.

The sides met in a third qualifying round tie but it was the Gulls, now of National League South, who had the edge in dreadful wet, windy conditions at the Taydal Stadium.

Jamie Reid’s 16th-minute penalty set them on the road to victory – a hotly-contested spot-kick awarded for an alleged foul by George Keys.

Skipper Asa Hall then headed home from a corner midway through the second half before Jake Andrews’ bullet header put the gloss on victory after 81 minutes.

Brightlingsea’s best attacking moment came when Matt Baxter burst forward and fed Billy Hunt but the striker’s shot was turned onto the bar by keeper Shaun MacDonald.

The game was watched by a crowd of 470 and Regent pocketed just over £15,000 from their FA Cup run, which saw them eliminate Cambridge City and Egham Town.

Elsewhere, COGGESHALL TOWN also suffered heartache after losing 1-0 at Weston-Super-Mare.

The hosts’ winning goal was scored by Eli Phipps in the 91st minute.
