IT'S official - the FA Cup is heading to Brightlingsea.

The famous silverware will be on show at Regent's Taydal Stadium on Thursday, from 5pm.

Supporters are welcome to come along and have their picture taken with one of the most sought-after trophies in English football.

The event has been arranged by the FA as a prelude to Saturday's big third-qualifying round tie between Brightlingsea and National League South giants Torquay United.

"Thanks to our success so far, and with former Football League opponents in sight, we've been chosen for this leg of the tour," said R's secretary and digital media manager Tony Osborne.

"It's a rare and unique chance to see the trophy and have a photo with the famous cup.

"There will also be a chance to chat to our chairman, Terry Doherty, manager Tom Rothery and some of the players ahead of the match on Saturday.

"The FA will also be present and answer questions on all things football while the players will be taking part in an open training session on the pitch.

"The event will be completely free and we'd like to see as many supporters as possible involved in this very rare event for our town and club."

The bar will be open for refreshments, with teas and coffees available.

Regent booked their place in the third qualifying round after a dramatic victory against Egham Town, at the Taydal Stadium last Tuesday.

After drawing 3-3 in Surrey, they won the replay 2-1.
