ALLEN Denyer was the unlikely star of the Clacton and District League’s handicap singles tournament.
He took the honours by defeating Fred Button in the final, to uphold his family’s proud table tennis tradition.
Denyer’s unconventional technique is not one found in any coaching manual but his idiosyncratic backhand style, allied to terrier-like qualities of grit and determination, prevailed on the day and earned the Brotherhood player a well-merited trophy.
