HERE are the key points from the Westcliff murder trial that is ongoing at Basildon Crown Court.

On Monday, the jury was shown the terrifying moment that police discovered a body “covered in blood” after an alleged gang attack.

The trial of six men accused of murdering Asqeri Spaho in Westcliff continued with body cam footage being played from police officers who were first on the scene.

It is alleged the six men from London travelled to Southend on December 12, 2019, armed with swords and knives to steal £50,000 worth of cannabis growing in the property in Tintern Avenue.

Footage played to the jury yesterday at Basildon Crown Court shows officers attending the address after reports of “loud bangs” by neighbours.

The footage showed officers kicking open the door of the flat, shouting for anyone inside to make themselves known.

They were greeted by the sight of blood smeared on the walls leading upstairs.

The officers shout: “Anyone in these rooms make yourselves known to police”.

PC Simon King took to the witness box to take the jury through the footage captured on his body camera.

The footage showed PC King approaching a darkened room and looking inside.

The officer then said: “There’s a dead guy on the floor covered in blood”.

PC King confirmed to prosecution barrister Edmund Burge that the body was that of Mr Spaho, and that he was “absolutely covered” in blood, slumped against a brown leather sofa.

The court then heard from Det Cons Aimee Burton, who described the scene of the room where the attack happened.

She said: “Everything was in disarray. Everything was smashed. The TV had been up-ended and was on the floor.”

Det Cons Burton told that Mr Spaho’s body was later moved so paramedics could perform CPR.

She continued: “The officers moved him initially and paramedics further moved him to allow those around him to issue first aid.”

Mr Spaho, an Albanian national, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, while another Albanian man was attacked but fled out of the window and survived.

The alleged victim said he had leapt out of the window covered in blood and flagged down a car to escape.
