Firefighters were able to avoid a major diaster by preventing a blaze from spreading to a diesel pump.

Crews from Grays, Brentwood, Orsett and Corringham were all called in to tackle the fire, which happened at a bulk liquid storage unit in Askews Farm Road, Grays, this morning.

The teams poured foam onto the fire to smother it and stop it from spreading.

They then worked with on-site staff to remove as much diesel from a nearby storage tank.

The fire was eventually extinguished by 9am - 40 minutes after it started.

Crews remained at the scene until 10.30am to ensure it was safe.

The fire has been recorded as accidental.
