Westcliff: Italian restaurant Basilica put up for sale

Basilica restaurant in Westcliff is now listed for sale with property consultants Dedman Gray.

Its listed price is £1 million.

The spectacular building, which was a former Lloyds bank, was built in 1901 and has been a prominent part of Hamlet Court Road ever since.

It underwent a major refurbishment in early 2020, along with a name change from Pavarotti.

But freeholder Salvatore Burzotta’s plans for a grand reopening were scuppered when the pandemic hit and first national lockdown was ordered in March.

The revamp saw new equipment installed throughout the restaurant along with the addition of new décor.

Dedman Gray says both the restaurant and five-bedroom apartment on the upper floors is included in the price.

The restaurant is to be sold with all fixtures and fittings and can accommodate up to 80 covers.

The upstairs apartment also features a lounge, kitchen/dining area, balcony seating area, an office, family bathroom and gated parking area.

The landmark building was first transformed into a restaurant in 1993 and retains many of its original features including the high ceilings and basement vault.
