Hundreds of Echo readers do not believe Southend is a top seaside destination, a poll has revealed.

The find comes after Southend failed to make it to the list of top seaside resorts, according to Which?

Which? asked visitors to rate the beach, attractions, seafront and scenery for more than 100 seaside towns and villages in the UK to find out which is best for a holiday or break. However, a big enough sample couldn’t be gathered for Southend - hence its absence on the list.

So instead we thought we'd take the power to the people, and asked our readers across south Essex to let us know what they think.

We asked you to tell us whether Southend deserved to be included in the list of top seaside resorts across the country.

And the results are in...

Yes - we are one of the best = 42% / 206 votes

No - we dont deserve it = 50% / 244 votes

Not sure = 8% / 35 votes

Half of you said Southend didn't deserve to make the list, with around 42% of you jumping on board to defend the borough’s place in the rankings, claiming Southend is actually one of the best.

The survey, by Which? ranked St Mawes in Cornwall as the top town and Essex rival Clacton as one of the bottom spots but Southend was nowhere to be seen.
