A DRUNK thug attacked a DJ at a Halloween party after believing his partner cheated on him, a court heard.

Michael Shulz has been spared jail for putting the man in a headlock and punching him several times during the party at his partner’s home in Southend.

The 41-year-old had seen the man go into the bathroom where his partner was, and after they both came out, he confronted her, accusing her of cheating.

She denied this, saying they just had a conversation, but despite this Shulz walked up behind the DJ, put him in a headlock and punched him.

He also then damaged the man’s Macbook laptop he was using for the party that night, estimated to be worth around £2,000.

The DJ was left with blurred vision in one of his eyes for some time after the attack on November 2 last year, which was so swollen the doctors had to open it with their fingers.

Shulz, of Christchurch Road, Southend, appeared at Basildon Crown Court where he admitted causing grievous bodily harm and criminal damage.

In a victim impact statement read to court, the victim said he has suffered stress an anxiety since the attack, and that it came “completely out of the blue”, and finds it “difficult to believe what happened”.

Mitigating, John Caudle, told the court: “He is now back with his partner.

“The depression he has got is linked to this case waiting for the outcome.

“He is very remorseful and wishes it hadn’t have happened and he is ashamed.

“He just saw red.

“He knows what he did, he has no specific memory of it but the way he put it is he doesn’t remember, but if they say he did it they have no reason to lie about it.”

Judge Samantha Cohen gave Shulz a suspended prison sentence and 100 hours unpaid work, but told him he must pay £6,000 compensation to his victim within 12 months.

She said she accepted the behaviour was out of character but he must still be punished.

She said: “What you did on November 2 was outrageous and you behaved like a drunken thug.”

Shulz was also given a restraining order against his victim.
