TWO quad bikes have been seized as police imposed a dispersal order on Canvey targeting nuisance vehicles.

The order, under Section 35 of the Anti-social behaviour, Crime and Policing act 2014, is in place until 3am on Monday morning.

It gives police powers to order people to leave a particular area.

Offenders are known to congregate at McDonalds car park, Morrisons Car Park and adjoining industrial areas (Charfleets industrial estate), which are inside the boundary of the dispersal zone.

Just before the order was put in place, officers seized two quad bikes at around 8pm this evening.

Two riders, both over 18 were seen to be riding without any insurance in place in Haven Road - they had come from the sea wall area.

Special Constable Webster seized the bikes and the offenders have been reported for the offence.

Speaking of the dispersal zone, a Castle Point police spokesman said: "Due to recent reports of nuisance vehicles in the Roscommon Way area of Canvey Island, a dispersal order has been authorised under Section 35 of the anti-social behaviour, crime and Policing act 2014.

"This dispersal order started this evening and is in place until 3am on July 6 2020.
