A TEENAGER was beaten to the ground and violently kicked and punched by three youths.

The 15-year-old, who sustained bruising to his head, was targeted by three boys in a unprovoked attack on Whitmore Way, Basildon, after he missed his bus home.

The group, said to be of a similar age, chased the victim further towards the town, and stole his shoes and bag.

Police have launched an investigation into the robbery on Saturday night.

Dad Dave Halls contacted the Echo to say he is disgusted at the violent assault and said his son didn’t know the yobs.

The 38-year-old said: “The three approached him, asked him if he knew someone else, which he did, and then they took a disliking to him.

“They pushed him to the ground and punched and kicked him in his body and head.

“Two walkers came to his aid and offered to pay for a taxi to get him home to his mum’s.

“We’re so grateful for their help.”

Mr Halls, from Basildon added: “I want him to have a life of independence but incidents like this really hit home.

“My son should be able walk the streets of Basildon without fear of being attacked and he should feel safe.

“I’m now looking to transfer him to a different school purely based on the fact how bad things have got.”

A spokesman for Essex Police confirmed detectives have opened an investigation.

They said: “We are investigating reports of a robbery in Whitmore Way, Basildon on Saturday, May 30, at around 9.15pm.

“A teenage boy was approached by three teenage boys who stole his trainers and backpack.”

The force has urged anyone with information to call 101, quoting 42/77889/20.
