A 19-year-old died in an Essex hospital after testing positive for coronavirus.

The teenager died at Princess Alexandra Hospital, in Harlow, in the 24 hours before the trust released its daily figures on Friday, April 3.

The casualty was one of four announced at the hospital as of 5pm on Friday.

They were aged between 19 and 94 and all had underlying conditions.

Lance McCarthy, chief executive for The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, said: "We can confirm that sadly, four patients, aged between 19 and 94, who had underlying conditions, have passed away at The Princess Alexandra Hospital. They had tested positive for COVID-19.

"Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patient’s family and loved ones at this difficult time."

The total death toll of patients with Covid-19 at Princess Alexandra stands at 46.

There have been 49 deaths linked to Covid-19 at Basildon Hospital.
