A MAN has been taken to hospital after being hit by a car at London Road, in Westcliff.

London Road, between the top of Crowstone Road and Westcliff Park Drive is closed. Police are still at the scene.

A Ford Fiesta and VW Beetle were visible within the police cordon shortly after the crash which took place around 2.45pm.

An eye witness, said: "I didn't see it happen but as I was walking from work when I approached the area about 4pm and saw two cars in the middle of the road.

"One lad, who must have been the driver of one of the cars, or a passenger, was giving a statement to a police officer.

"I hope no one was hurt."

A spokesman for Essex Police, said: "We are currently in scene following a collision at around 2.45pm, between a pedestrian and a Ford Fiesta in London Road, Westcliff.

"Drivers are asked to avoid the area where possible.

"A man believed to be in his 40s has been taken to hospital, his injuries are not considered to be life threatening or life changing."

The ambulance service has been contacted for comment.
