AN ORCHARD has been planted to create a brand new community for gardeners.
Ten fruit trees have been planted to create a community orchard for plot holders in the Wickford allotments, just off Market Road in the town.
Basildon Council’s arboriculture team planted the ten trees, which included apple, pear, plum and green gage, this morning.
David Harrison, councillor for neighbourhoods and public spaces, said: "This is an excellent use of an unproductive plot and will be of great benefit to plot holders at Wickford allotments.
"The trees will provide dessert apples, cooking apples, pears, plums and green gages."
