A TEENAGER was hit by a car on Hamlet Court Road, in Westcliff.

An eye-witness reported that a teenager was allegedly shop lifting from the Co-Op and was hit by a Fiat 500 as he fled the store.

The road has been closed since around 6pm from the junction of London Road and a police cordon is now in place.

Ambulances were also at the scene.

Pictures show the windscreen of the red Fiat 500 badly cracked, along with clothing in the street within the cordon.

Two police cars and officers were still present at the scene around 8pm, as well as a police car blocking the entrance into Hamlet Court Road.

A spokesman from Essex Police, said: 

“Officers attended a collision between a red Fiat 500 and a teenage pedestrian on Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff, at 6pm on April 23.

“The teenager was taken to hospital with injuries to his leg and head that are not believed to be life-threatening.

“No arrests have been made.

“We received reports of a theft from the Co-op in Hamlet Court Road shortly before the collision.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
