PLANS to build a new block of flats on an old salvage yard have been revealed.

Dursemoor Properties has applied for planning permission to build a block of nine flats at the former home of Colchester Reclaim, in Hawkins Road, Hythe.

Flats will be created in two blocks, each of five or six-storeys in height.

They will be a mix of three and two-bed apartments.

A car park will be created beneath the properties.

A planning report, prepared by McLean Architectural, states: "The site is currently unused, having been vacated in preparation for redevelopment pursuant to the existing planning permission to create eight apartments, and is in a sustainable location that is close to local services and facilities and the public transport hub at Hythe railway station, with an allocation for redevelopment to residential use in the local plan.

"The scheme proposes that the whole of the site will be in residential use, with all nine apartments enclosing a shared courtyard and provided with private amenity space, making good use of the land available for development.

"The proposed scheme is available now, a suitable location and an achievable site for residential development, therefore it is deliverable and the applicant is pleased to confirm that construction can begin in the short term, as soon as the new planning permission is granted."

Colchester Reclaim moved to Tiptree after the original planning application was approved in March 2020.

Colchester Council will have the final say on the proposals.
