PLANS for 26 new home to be built on land near a home for people with mental health needs have been approved.

Heyhill Land Limited has received outline planning permission for the homes to be built on land south of Cygnet Hospital, in Boxted Road, Colchester.

The exact make up of the properties is not set out but the homes will be a mix of flats and houses.

A full application to build 26 homes on the site was approved in 2017.

Heyhill Land has been marketing the site to potential developers, but no sale has yet been agreed.

A planning report states: "It was felt that an outline application nearing the end of the expiry of the full application will provide the flexibility that many developers will wish in terms of taking the site forward.

"By establishing the principle of up to 26 units in a developable area the subsequent purchaser has the flexibility of the final form of the design within the constraints of a developable area as defined at outline stage."
