A BOOMING business has started work on its expansion plans following the creation of its state-of-the-art £2 million self-storage facility in Colchester.

Development company Hills Building Group opened the 50,000 sq ft facility, Hills Self Storage, at Brook Street Business Centre, in the former East of England Co-op furniture warehouse on the estate, last year.

Now work has started on expanding the premises and the facilities on offer to customers in Colchester.

Part one of the business' growth programme will see the basement converted into additional small storage rooms, measuring between 25 sq ft and 50 sq ft.

A new storage on demand service will also be created where Hill Self Store staff will visit residents' properties, collect the items and then store them safely on site.

The final part of the expansion programme will see a number of storage containers installed on site.

These will be available for drive-up store customers but also available to rent for small businesses as "pop-up shops" with a glass door and window installed to create a shop front.

Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

The idea has been a big success in Box Park in London, helping small businesses which need additional space grow.

Jonathan Hills, managing director of Hills Building Group, said: "We have been delighted with the progress and demand for our self-storage business in Colchester.

"The facility has not only supported the home moving customers of Hills Building Group, but has also found a whole new customer base, wanting great value, great quality storage in a very central and convenient location.

"We have a first-class team pushing this new business forward, and despite these unusual times we want to continue to invest strongly in Colchester.

"The next phase will more than treble our capacity for smaller units and we look forward to welcoming new and old customers to the store 24 hours a day’
