AFTER a stressful few months, it's time for some rest and recuperation.

Sean and Kerry Power have the perfect solution - a trip to their new flotation therapy business in Colchester.

Float & Booch opened this week and, in addition to a calming, smoothing experience, the pair also use kombucha, a fermented, sweetened tea, to ensure customers feel relaxed, refuelled and rejuvenated.

Float therapy is a tool for wellness, relaxation, pain relief and better sleep.

Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

It involves lying on the surface of warm water that has been saturated in Epsom salts.

Float & Booch has two floatation pods that are a little bigger than a double bed and chest high.

The high concentration of salts allow customers to simply lie on their back and be pushed to the surface, so they float like a cork.

Sean admits combining kombucha tasting with floatation therapy is a “quirky” venture but one he and his wife are very passionate about it.

He said: "Life was exhausting.

"I was up at 5am and home at 5pm, stressed both physically and mentally and constantly too tired to enjoy playing with our children.

"I couldn't give them the attention I wanted and something had to change.

"I tried using meditation on the train to re-energise before I got home.

"It helped but it takes a lot of practice and I struggled to block out distractions.

"Then I tried floatation therapy.

"With all distractions removed, my mind eventually went silent, followed by complete clarity.

"I realised I needed to allocate my time better and also felt I was able to find that extra mental and physical energy I needed.

"I used floatation therapy as a tool to focus on a change in life priorities.

"That’s why I made the scary but exciting move to have a change in career, fed up with the chaos and stress of commuting into London.

"We decided to set up a very quirky business that combines two things we're passionate about - floatation therapy and kombucha."

Float & Booch opened in Butt Road on Wednesday.

Kerry hopes their methods can have a relaxing impact on customers across north Essex.

Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

"We aim to bring a positive change to the lives of the people of Colchester, through relaxation and nutrition," said the mum-of-two, who will working on the business' social media and administration as well as working in the shop when possible.

"Our ethos is float to be kind to your mind, booch (short for kombucha) to be good to your gut.

"Our floatation pods can be used as a sanctuary for people to come and quiet their hectic minds.

"Floating simply involves lying effortlessly on the surface of warm water that has been saturated in Epsom salts.

"This is done in pitch black darkness, complete silence and with a feeling of pure weightlessness."

Kerry also hails the health benefits of kombucha.

"We've created a unique, relaxed ambience in our kombucha lounge, with swing chairs, bean bags and sofas, surrounded by air purifying tropical plants," she said.

"Booch is a fermented sparkling tea and we love it.

"We want to share this love through our tasting room and bottle shop.

"We know it won't be possible for everyone to visit us so we'll also be doing a booch delivery service once a week, delivering to Colchester postcodes CO1 to CO5."
