NO deaths related to the coronavirus have been recorded at trusts running hospitals in north Essex for 12 consecutive days.

East Suffolk and North Essex Foundation Trust, which runs both Colchester and Ipswich hospitals, has not recorded the death of a patient diagnosed with Covid-19 since July 14.

A total of 353 people with the virus have died at the trust’s hospitals.

NHS England releases a daily update on patient deaths, with no further fatalities recorded at hospital trusts in the East of England.

A further ten people who tested positive for the virus across hospitals in England have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in the country’s hospitals to 29,291.

Patients were aged between 48 and 93-years-old and all had known underlying health conditions.

The number of cases of coronavirus around the world has doubled in the past six weeks, the World Health Organisation has said.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the WHO, said that the pandemic “continues to accelerate”.

Almost 16 million cases have been reported to WHO.

“In the past six weeks, the total number of cases has roughly doubled,” he told a press briefing in Geneva."

The figures on deaths relate to patients who have died in hospital and who have tested positive for Covid-19. They do not include deaths outside hospital, such as those in care homes, prisons, ambulances or in the community.

The government releases a daily figure for deaths outside of hospitals - Public Health England does not release a regional breakdown.

But using Office of National Statistics data up to June 27, added with hospital deaths since, reveals the number of Covid-19 related deaths in the county is at least 527 across all settings.
