A transport service for people with limited mobility is returning.

Community 360 are looking for volunteer drivers who can provide a transport service in Maldon and Colchester for people in the local community who have limited mobility and might otherwise be excluded.

The service is ready to get up and running again but needs the support of the local community.

Shelly Rudling, head of community transport at Community360 said: "We are delighted that we can resume our transport service but we need more people to come forward and volunteer.

"Without our volunteers we wouldn’t be able to provide the services we do.

“A lot of the volunteers have been here a number of years and during the lockdown we had additional volunteers coming forward.

"However, with many people returning to work we are finding there is now a gap which we need to fill.

"It’s about giving something back in a service you may need yourself in the future and volunteers get a lot out of helping those that need it."

The Community Transport scheme provides a door to door service to and from doctors, dental and hospital appointments, medical centre, shopping centres, prescription collection service and encourages visits to friends and relatives.

The scheme also offers excursions and the opportunity for members to meet new people.

Shelly said: "We are a vital link in our community and offer a number of options for travel to both individuals and groups.

“We are now very much open for business and would also like to assure clients using our service that we have put social distancing and full Covid-19 safety in place.

"From face coverings and masks being worn by our drivers and clients on our services.

"We offer ‘back seat’ travel in our social cars if our buses are not accessible and have also introduced card payments on the buses and payment can also be taken over the phone.

"Our priority is for the safety of our clients and volunteers."

The scheme currently serves over 12000 members and 219 community groups in Maldon and Colchester.
