A PUBLIC inquiry into plans to build more than 100 new homes next to the A120 is set to get underway.

Wallace Land Investment and Management is seeking to overturn Braintree Council's decision to refuse planning permission for a new development off School Road, Rayne.

The developer wants to build 150 new homes, some of which will be affordable, and a new public space.

The scheme was rejected by the council due to concerns it would harm the countryside setting of Rayne.

Wallace Land Investment launched an appeal soon after and is now hoping a planning inspector will change the decision.

The inspector will host a virtual public inquiry from Monday where all parties will outline their views on the application.

The inquiry is expected to last for eight days, and will get underway from 1.30pm.

Members of the public will be able to watch or listen to the hearing remotely to ensure social distancing measures are followed.

There will also be a chance for residents to give their views during the inquiry.
