A 20-stone thug trod on his ex-partner before punching and kicking her out of his flat.

James Hadley has been jailed for ten months for causing actual bodily harm on his ex-girlfriend while in a drunken rage.

The 35-year-old had been living at his flat in Ryedene Place, Basildon with his partner, but had broken up in January following a row at hospital where Hadley admitted he had taken heroin.

It was agreed the two were not together but remained in the same flat as neither had anywhere else to go.

Three days later on January 20, Hadley had come home after getting drunk, and his ex-parter was sat on the floor playing on a Playstation.

He walked in front of her and trod on her outstretched legs, causing her pain due to him being double her weight.

An argument broke out about her staying at the flat, and then Hadley “completely lost it” and began hitting her in the head, before picking her up and shoving her against a wall.

She screamed at him to stop but he kept going and forced her out of the front door.

When she was on the ground, he put his foot on her head.

The whole incident went on for 30 minutes and neighbours ended up calling the police.

The woman suffered scratches and bruising, but did not have any lasting injuries from the attack.

Hadley was later charged and appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday via video link to be sentenced.

Mitigating, Nick Bonehill told the court: “He asks her to leave and she said ‘I can’t leave I’ve

got nowhere to go’, this wasn’t simply him out of nowhere attacking her.

“He was trying to make it clear to her she needs to leave, but he approached it in completely the wrong way.

“He never intended to cause her significant injuries, and he didn’t cause her serious injuries.”

Hadley, who has been on remand since January, had a previous conviction for robbery back in 2015, and Mr Bonehill said he had been homeless for a period when he came out of prison.

He added that Hadley “has no intention” to see his ex-partner again.

Judge Samantha Leigh gave Hadley a ten month prison sentence.
