MERSEA'S lifeboat crew was called into action when a woman went into labour on the island during high tide.
The West Mersea Lifeboat Station RNLI were called on Wednesday in order to bring paramedics on to the island, to attend to a pregnant woman who was giving birth.
However the lifeboat was stood down when an air ambulance and first responders were able to reach the woman.
The lifeboat team has confirmed medical staff were able to safely deliver a baby girl and have passed their congratulations to the family.
There is only one way onto Mersea island, The Strood, which is covered in water during high tides.
