A CHARITY has hailed its supporters' generosity after the winner of the top cash prize in its annual raffle turned around and gave it straight back to them as a donation.

Robin Frost was announced as the lucky recipient of the £2,500 prize in St Helena Hospice's winter draw earlier this week.

But realising the difficult funding situation the hospice finds itself in due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Mr Frost decided to gift the cash straight back to them.

He said: "As many are bravely demonstrating every day, this is a time for giving.”

The third prize winner, who bagged £100 in the draw, also gave the cash back to the charity.

Lianne Keen, supporter engagement fundraiser for St Helena Hospice, said: "We are absolutely blown away by the support we are receiving from our community.

"We know that it’s a difficult time for everyone at the moment, and we’re so incredibly grateful for every single donation we’re receiving.

"We’d like to send a special thank you to our prize winners whose selfless donations will make a huge difference to the patients and families we support.”

St Helena Hospice has launched an urgent appeal for donations to combat the devastating effects the coronavirus will have on its income.
