EACH and every day, criminals cause misery across Colchester whether it be with violence, drug dealing or depraved sexual acts.

Here are the people police brought to justice in March who have received jail sentences.

Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

DRUGS were found in James Redman's pants after he shouted abuse at police.

The 22-year-old shouted that officers were scum as he drove a van on Greenstead roundabout.

They searched the vehicle and found class A drugs, which he said weren't his.

More were found in his pants.

He admitted possession with intent to supply crack and heroin and was jailed for two years.

Clacton and Frinton Gazette:

BURGLAR Jon Birch smashed into Holland and Barrett in Colchester town centre and stolen protein powder.

The 41-year-old rough sleeper was stopped by police within 12 hours but managed to get away from them.

He admitted burglary and escaping lawful custody and was jailed for 16 months.

  • A MAN who threatened to throw a brick through the window of a refuge for homeless people has been jailed for ten weeks.

Warren Linnen said he would destroy the office window of the Colchester Emergency Night Shelter in Alexandra Road.

He also harassed a woman and stole her Amazon Kindle device worth £50, and also stole Playstation Four games worth £70 from a man he also targeted for harassment.

Linnen admitted the threat towards the night shelter, but denied two other counts of harassment and two counts of theft.

But the 40-year-old, of no fixed address, was found guilty of all charges following a trial at Colchester Magistrates' Court.

He was jailed and must pay £120 in compensation on top of a £115 victim surcharge.

Linnen was also given a restraining order banning him from contacting either harassment victim for a year.

  • A THIEF has been jailed for ten weeks.

Daniel Archer, of Willingham Way, Colchester admitted stealing from several shops in the town when he appeared at court.

The 33-year-old must also pay £101.20 in compensation.

  • A SHOPLIFTER has been jailed for 17 weeks.

Kaley Hodgkinson, 30, stole a bottle of wine from a One Stop shop in Colchester in February.

She has also damaged a window and four crates of beer at the store and assaulted a man.

Hodgkinson, of Charles Pell Road, Colchester, admitted assault, criminal damage and theft at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court.

  • A THIEF who had a razor blade on him has been jailed for 18 weeks.

Terry Clark, 55, took two bottles of perfume worth £80 from TK Maxx and was caught with the potential weapon.

He admitted possession of a bladed article, theft and committing offences during a suspended sentence order at Colchester Magistrates' Court.

Clark, of King George Road, Colchester, must pay £267 in court charges when he is released.

  • A THIEF has been jailed for stealing £140 worth of goods from a sports shop.

John McGuire, 29, of King George Road, Colchester, took the items from JD Sports in Colchester town centre.

He admitted theft at Colchester Magistrates' Court and was jailed for six weeks.
