A BAND which embarked on a unique 12-month project with the aim of releasing a single every month, have launched their second songs this week.

Harwich-born Ben Wood, 35, and his band Ben Wood and the Bad Ideas have released their second single of the project, called Noondrunk, on Friday.

They launched the project in January by releasing the first of 12 singles - Cora, Cora, Cora. The band have already received attention on a global scale with their music being played on international radio stations in Australia, Japan, and the USA.

The band were supposed to kick-start the year with the song Noondrunk but had to switch the songs up due to “issues which cropped up at the very last minute”. Singer Ben said: “Noondrunk is Ben Wood and the Bad Ideas’ blistering cocktail.”

The song reflects all the wiry hypertension, palpitations and the cold sweat fever which can only be experienced by an intoxicated person in the broadest daylight.

He added: “Noondrunk is about being inebriated when there’s still 12 hours to go until midnight.

“We wanted to write a song which reflected that intensity, vulnerability and desperation both musically and lyrically. This number is definitely a journey sonically - we wrote it to be unsettling yet melodic.”

There will be a very special guest spot from Sex Pistol Paul Cook on their next single Lead Me On, due out in March.

Ben said the release of Cora, Cora, Cora was a great success. He added: “The song received plenty of radio play, and even got on the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer Show in Los Angeles and got a really nice write-up on Louder Than War website.

“We filmed the video at the Savoy, Hotel London, in the same location as Bob Dylan’s iconic Subterranean Homesick Blues video from 1965.”

Back in 2012 the band played at Prince Charles’ Garden Party at Clarence House, and have performed at the Yes To Life festival and releasing a compilation track, called Obsessed With You as their first single.

Ben was a busker on the London Underground and performed on the London and Essex music scene.
