NURSERY staff are over the moon to have bumped up their watchdog rating from inadequate to good.

Cheeky Monkeys Day Nursery in Colchester was rated as good in all areas of their Ofsted report.

It is a huge achievement for nursery staff, who were given an inadequate rating at the previous inspection in June.

Since the summer the nursery in William Harris Way has been extensively refurbished.

The latest report said: “Children and babies settle well and demonstrate they feel safe, happy and emotionally secure.

“They form close bonds with their key person, other staff and each other.

“Children and babies are enthusiastic learners who persevere as they engage in interesting activities.”

“Children adopt healthy and safe lifestyles. Staff teach children to consider risks and use equipment safely.

“They learn about responsible behaviour.”

Tracy Hughes, nursery manager, said everyone was happy with the outcome.

She said: “The nursery is proud each child’s uniqueness is celebrated, and all children’s needs are fully met.

“Ofsted highlighted all staff know the children exceptionally well and were impressed with staff’s ongoing professional development.

“The nursery is absolutely beautiful, the children are really engaged in their learning and all the parents are extremely happy.”

To further improve their result the staff have been asked to implement the plans to enhance the range of opportunities and experiences available to support those children who prefer to play and learn outdoors.

They must also make the most of all opportunities that arise to extend and challenge children’s learning at the highest level.
