PUPILS donned traditional dress from across the globe to mark International Week.

The senior students and staff at St Mary’s School in Colchester dressed in costumes inspired by a country of their choice.

More than £300 was raised from the non-uniform day contributions which will be donated to the senior school’s charity of the year - the Catherine Bullen Foundation.

The students enjoyed an international-themed meal each day of the week, including Greek souvlaki, Mexican nachos and Caribbean curry.

A programme of activities included a careers in languages workshop, a Latin rhythm salsa session and an international treasure hunt.

Headteacher Hilary Vipond said: “We are committed to ensuring our students develop global competence through programmes and experiences during their time at St Mary’s.

“International Week provides an excellent opportunity for the girls to explore various international themes which support their learning of modern foreign languages and demonstrates the Round Square Ideals of Learning we are committed to upholding as part of our Round Square global membership.”

Round Square is a network of schools from more than 50 countries which offers opportunities to collaborate and share experiences with students across the world.
