HUNDREDS of hungry punters flocked to the return of an award-winning pub’s beer and sausage festival.

The renowned three day event returned for the seventh year at the Live and Let Live, in Millers Lane Stanway.

Featuring 19 different real ales, five locally sourced ciders and 20 flavours of sausage, the festival has been hailed as the most successful in the event’s history.

Landlord Pete Freeman said: “It was our best yet and we sold out of beer and had to put new ones on for customers.

“We sold well over 2,000 sausages, it is amazing really.

“We sell them in plates of four, so that is at least 500 plates sold.

“We had hundreds of people over the three days and we sold roughly 1,400 pints.

“It is one of our biggest weekends of the year and we are well known for it now.”

The Live and Let Live also had another reason to celebrate after being named runner up in the town category at Colchester and North Essex Campaign for Real Ale’s Pub of the Year 2019 competition.

Mr Freeman, who has run the pub for 11 years, said: “We work hard

and we do good ales and good food which has gained us a positive reputation.

“We also do a beer and pie festival in October which has been going a few years.”
