PUDSEY would be proud!

Across north Essex, schools, businesses and individuals did their bit to raise money for Children in Need.

Brightlingsea Panto Group continued its annual fundraising tradition by spending the day at the side of the road near All Saints Church, flagging down drivers to donate to the appeal.

The group’s roadside collection has been running for 25 years and they have raised approximately £89,000 for Children in Need.

Mark Jack, a member of the group, said: “It went well despite the drizzle, quite a lot of people have been going through.”

Oakleigh Montessori Nursery in the New Town area of Colchester raised £165 by hosting a cake sale outside the nursery in Magdalen Hall.

Iceni Academy in Colchester also did its bit to add to the Children in Need coffers by hosting a non-uniform day.

Pupils made a £1 donation to wear spots and stripes, just like Pudsey Bear, raising £150.

Throughout the day classes were given a Children in Need twist, and pupils were encouraged to write persuasive letters about why donating is important. They also made videos about how to donate and even took part in themed code-breakers.

Headteacher Lisa Corby said: “Thank you to parents for supporting the school on its joint venture with the infant school.”
