CHINESE lanterns could be outlawed on all council land in Tendring.
The district council is looking to ban the floating lights from being launched from its property and recommending town and parish councils do the same.
The move comes after Great Bentley Parish Council said it was banning the candle-lit lanterns from being released on the village green because they are a fire risk to crops.
Tendring Council’s rural projects chairman Fred Nicholls said the decision had been unanimous.
He said: “Living in a rural area I knowonly too well the dangers caused by these lanterns and the panel was very keen to see a ban on them.”
