WHILE I recognise Tendring Council has a duty to facilitate housing for Tendring residents, I do not believe it has any duty to encourage “migration” to this area in view of the following: • The growth of Tendring’s population has already has led to an increase in social problems, particularly in the urban areas.
• All developments must be sustainable.
• There are insignificant employment opportunities (and many are unable/unwilling to travel far to work) consequently, a large rise in population will almost inevitably lead to an increase in welfare, health and social costs.
• Tendring Council already has a very high proportion of those over 60, and any large expansion in numbers would further alter unfavourably the demographics of the area.
Tendring Council’s housing plans should therefore be based on an assessment of local needs, and not those from social housing societies around London.
