A NEW scheme is helping people with mobility impairments travel more independently in Jaywick.
Jaywick Sands Revival CIC has launched a mobility scooter hire service with nearly £30,000 from Greater Anglia.
The scheme offers four foldable all-terrain scooters which can be taken on trains, making longer journeys more accessible.
Laura Carlton, from Jaywick Sands Revival CIC, said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to Greater Anglia for their generous funding and support.
"This investment will make a real difference to families and residents in our community, helping us provide vital support, activities and opportunities for local people.
"We’re incredibly grateful for their belief in what we do and for helping us make Jaywick Sands a stronger, more connected community."
The project is one of 33 community schemes sharing more than £350,000 from Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund in its third year.
The Essex community interest company has also hired a part-time employee to run the scheme and maintain the scooters.
Scott Dolling, partnerships manager at Greater Anglia, said: "This community-led project is a great way for residents to start travelling more independently and use the railway for longer journeys.
